Ancient engraved ring worth£1,500
Colin Henderson, a metal detector enthusiast from Country Durham, has found a 15th century engraved ring, estimated to be worth £1,500.
He found the ring about five centimetres below the surface on farmland near Darlington, according to the Northern Echo.
Mr Henderson told the paper the ring was the only thing the Quakers Acres metal detectors club found that day.
"In the past, I have found a Saxon brooch, medieval coins and lots of Roman coins, but this is the best thing I have ever found," he said.
Because it is over 300 years old and has at least ten per cent precious metal content the ring was taken and valued by the Treasure Valuation Committee under the Treasure Act.
It was valued at £1,500 and Mr Henderson will now be given a reward equal to the value of the ring which will be split with the landowner.
