BA celebrates new terminal with promotional gifts

Air passengers arriving at Heathrow airport's new Terminal 5, which opened for business today, have been treated to corporate gifts by British Airways.

Terminal 5 is the new centre for BA flights out of London's biggest airports, which kicked off operations this morning when 283 passengers from Hong Kong arrived at 4.50am.

Passengers using the terminal today will be given commemorative luggage tags, keyrings, chocolates, certificates and special catering.

More than 40,000 people are expected to pass through Terminal 5 today on 30 long-haul and 350 short-haul flights, making this potentially one of the biggest promotional gift give-aways of the year.

BA chief executive Willie Walsh celebrated the long-awaited opening of the new terminal, saying: "This is an historic day for British Airways and for UK aviation. Everyone involved in the project should be extremely proud of their achievements in creating this fantastic facility."

The first departure from the new terminal headed to France, carrying 150 passengers to Paris.
