Blind bowling team wins engraved trophy
A team of blind and visually-impaired bowlers from Glasgow have been awarded £3,000 and an glass engraved trophy at the west of Scotland's Local Heroes ceremony.
The Saltire Strikers, from Springfield Quay in Glasgow's South Side, won the Breaking Down Barriers award at the event, organised by the Glasgow Evening Times.
The club was started in 2006 by 23-year-old Robert Mooney, who is himself visually-impaired.
Speaking earlier this month when the nominations for the awards were announced, he told the newspaper: "Bowling is obviously quite difficult for blind people. Those who have never had any sight have no idea what the lanes look like or what the skittles are like.
"But we all help each other out and the sighted volunteers are a great help as well, working one-on-one with people who need assistance."
The Strikers team now comprises 15 members, and is the only group of its kind in Scotland.
