Branded gifts given to Nigerian maths-wizards
Children in Nigeria are being awarded prizes, including branded merchandise, in a maths competition.
The annual Cowbell National Secondary Schools Mathematics Competition is held in association with Cowbell milk and the Nigerian state ministry of education.
A first round of examinations has already taken place and the 74 winners from that round are to be examined again at the Lagos Airport Hotel in Ikeja on April 19th.
The first prize for the senior winners of the competition at national level is N130,000 (£55,600).
Winners' schools will also be rewarded for their good teaching with tables and chairs, maths textbooks and a metal sign post.
The best ten performers in the final examinations will be named Cowbell Mathematicians and rewarded at a ceremony in May.
Cowbell products and branded merchandise such as trophies, plaques and medals will also be given away.
According to Stepping Stones Nigeria, these children are the lucky ones.
In 2003, 44 per cent of children got a primary education and one in three Nigerians aged over 15 cannot read or write.
