Branded Merchandise News
Branding 'as old as civilisation'
The earliest evidence of branding is found in ancient Mesopotamia (now Iraq), according to an archaeologist quoted in the Telegraph.
The newspaper reports that Dr David Wengrow from University College London believes that bottle stops emblazoned with symbols found in the region are the earliest evidence of branded goods.
Logos featured on the bottles "project images of masculinity and femininity" . Dr Wengrow told the Telegraph.
In addition, some of the symbols depict warriors in violent or macho acts - the equivalent of the kind of advert aimed at today's 'lad', the paper reports.
Branding was created 8,000 years ago when villagers pressed designs into their clay bottle stops, the paper reported, which was turned into true branding with the urbanisation of the country.
Today, a strong brand can help a company to sell more goods.
According to corporate gifts expert Matthew Pressman, getting your brand out to consumers in the form of corporate logo gifts can help to "leave a lasting impression in the minds of your consumers".
