Charity raising funds through branded merchandise

Sri Lanka's ambassador for World Animal Day is using branded merchandise to raise funds for her campaign to curb the country's stray dog problem.

Otara Gunewardene's scheme is known as EMBARK and her success in this field has led to her appointment as ambassador.

Sri Lanka's Daily Mirror newspaper reported that this prestigious post was awarded to Ms Gunewardene as a result of her reputation for being one of the country's "most passionate advocates on the prevention of cruelty to animals".

The paper reports that as well as the stray dogs fund, Ms Gunewardene is known for her work with autistic children, sponsoring the planting of trees, funding the care of an elephant and helping to clear the Bundala National Park from plant species.

EMBARK offers a range of branded merchandise for its sponsors including mugs and engraved dog-tags.

Other types of engraved merchandise are also available, including picture frames and men's accessories.
