China celebrates Olympic flame with engraved relay badges

Pure gold and silver commemorative engraved badges are to be sold as souvenirs of the arrival of the Olympic flame in China.

Pictures engraved into the badges include images of the cities that the flame will travel through on its route to the capital.

The badges are known as the Beijing Olympic Flame Relay Badges and will go on sale in the near future.

The Olympic torch arrived in China yesterday and was greeted by thousands of hand-picked well-wishers.

Locals climbed lamp-posts and stood on ledges to watch the ceremony's performers troop back to their buses after the event, which took plave in a closed ceremony, according to the BBC.

Balloons were released by local students and a group of elderly models were present, dressed in traditional clothing.

The Olympic torch is scheduled to stay in the capital for one day before travelling the 85,000-miles to Almaty in Khazakhstan.

It will then return to China on May 4th.
