Controversial logo cost increased to£360,000
The price of the University of Southampton's new logo has increased to £360,000 after an initial budget of £160,000.
Hampshire's Daily Echo has revealed that union leaders are criticising what is being called a waste of money in a time when university authorities are considering job cuts to clear a £2 million funding deficit.
The majority of the money is being spent on stationary, the newspaper reports.
Southampton's new logo will also be printed onto corporate gifts and business gifts such as desk accessories.
A number of non-academic staff are potentially at risk of losing their positions.
"Everyone is furious that the university found so much money to ditch the dolphin logo at a time when they are telling staff they have to make huge savings and massive job cuts," a union official told the Daily Echo.
The University of Southampton has also been featured in the news recently when their university union president lost the right to vote for who its next vice-chancellor would be, the Echo reported yesterday.
