Corporate gifts association fights back against ban

The Promotional Products Association International (PPAI) has fought back against rules from the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) that corporate gifts promoting medical services cannot be given to potential purchasers.

According to PPAI president and chief executive officer Steve Slagle, said that the organisation frequently took steps to promote the educational value of their products.

In a letter to Billy Tauzin, president and chief executive officer of PhRMA, Mr Slagle wrote: "In this case we will need to take additional steps to educate PhRMA about our industry's products and the educational and informational value they represent."

PhRMA rules, which will come into force in January, will prevent drug company sales representatives from distributing corporate gifts such as desk accessories when visiting potential clients.

When justifying the move, Mr Tauzin claimed that while he did not believe doctors are influenced by the executive gifts given to them by sales representatives, there are some people who do.

Looking for executive gifts? Business Gifts Supplier offers a choice selection of executive business gifts including bar accessories, men's accessories, desk accessories and more.
