Corporate gifts ban overturned

The Promotional Products Association International (PPAI) is celebrating after a ban on executive gifts was overturned in Iowa.

According to the group, the Iowa Insurance Division was set to introduce a ban which would see insurers unable to provide customers with corporate gifts, such as pewter tankards or men's accessories.

Insurers in the American state have previously been using such executive gifts as rebates for those taking out policies.

However, this had been deemed unethical by the division, which said the practice was prohibited by state law.

In June, the Iowa Insurance Division commissioner Susan Voss commented on the decision saying corporate gifts provided benefits to policyholders and were therefore illegal.

Previously, the PPAI fought against American medical rulemakers who had stopped medicine markers from distributing corporate gifts.

This was because they were deemed to be unethical, despite the PPAI's arguments that such executive gifts were given just to remind potential customers of the companies' contact details.
