Crystal award for town's"top citizens"

Young achievers, sports players, musicians and volunteers were honoured in an awards ceremony celebrating the "top citizens" of Helensburgh.

Engraved gifts were given to the winners of "Helensburgh's very own version of the BAFTAs" - the Community Spirit Awards.

The event was intended to recognise the work of "people who strive to make the community a better place", according to the Helensburgh Advertiser.

Councillor Vivien Dance was awarded the Citizen of the Year Award for her campaign to save the Vale of Leven Hospital.

She told the Helensburgh Advertiser that she felt "very honoured and privileged" to win the engraved crystal award which she thought was "wonderful".

Ms Dance dedicated her award to the hospital staff.

Other winners included Unsung Hero charity campaigner Alison Rutherford and Musician of the Year Andrew Mortimer.

Crystal awards can be personalised for any occasion and can be used as staff incentives as well as community awards.
