Edinburgh gives engraved cufflinks as corporate gifts to important visitors

Councillors in Edinburgh have been offered the chance to purchase special Edinburgh cufflinks.

The lord provost usually presents the cufflinks as special corporate gifts from the city to important guests.

And now an email invitation has been sent to the city's politicians giving them the chance to buy the cufflinks to wear in their official capacity as representatives of the council.

The council spokeswoman said that some of the new councillors who had recently entered into office might not be aware of the opportunity to purchase and wear the special items.

So a mass email was sent "highlighting" the items which are for sale, she added.

Special Edinburgh-branded cufflinks vary in price. The silver version is available for £119.85 and to get the cufflinks in gold costs up to £340.75, councillors were told.

Edinburgh's lord provost is the civic head of the city whose office dates back to the 13th century. As well as greeting important visitors, the provost represents the city on numerous bodies and organisations including the Edinburgh Festival Council and the Board of the Edinburgh military tattoo.
