Engraved award for"rare"cycling achievement

A cyclist from Wrexham has been honoured with an engraved medal for cycling over half a million miles.

That is the equivalent of cycling around the world 25 times or to the moon and back.

Brian Davis has meticulously logged the miles he has covered since 1965, according to the Flintshire Standard.

When Mr Davis was suffering from prostate cancer three years ago, he kept on cycling, earning himself the nickname of "the mile eater" among the local cycling club.

He has ridden in nine 20-hour time trials, in some achieving more than 400 miles.

Mr Davis and his cycling group, the Fibrax Wrexham roads club, recently took part in a 55-mile long charity bike ride in aid of local hospice Nightingale House.

Chairman of the club Gerry Jones told the newspaper he did not know any rider who had come anywhere close to matching Mr Davis's "incredible" achievement.

"He had successes at time trial, road racing and hill climbs during his career but his passion was always miles," he added.
