Engraved clock for appreciated volunteers

Volunteers at a Californian care home have been given engraved clocks thanking them for their service at the home.

Pianist Harry Weinberg was one of those rewarded for his 600 hours of piano-playing, reported the La Quinta Sun.

He told the paper that he performed because he liked making the residents happy.

"I'm a big ham," Weinberg explained to reporters.

"I love their applause. I don't know what I did to deserve all this praise today," he added.

Another volunteer awarded with the engraved gift was Mercedes Turner who volunteers in the kitchen helping out with washing dishes and doing preparation for events, according to the La Quinta Sun.

Awards and prizes have been proven in a number of academic studies to increase motivation among workers and corporate gifts let employees know that they are important to the firm, according to marketing graduate student Abbie Stutzer.
