Engraved crystal award for committed blood donor

A blood donor has been presented with an engraved crystal plate from the National Blood Service to celebrate his 75 blood donations.

Charles Wagstaffe is a 57-year-old sheet metal worker and has been regularly been giving blood since he found out his employer would give him time off work to do so.

He joked: "An hour off work and a nice sit down for a cuppa – what more could you ask for?"

Mr Wagstaffe said it is important for everyone to give blood as next time it could be you or a member of your family that needs help.

According to the Cambridgeshire National Blood Service, almost six per cent of Peterborough residents give blood, compared with a national average of around four per cent.

Less than three per cent of regular donors will match Mr Wagstaffe's achievement.
