Engraved gift copy of Koran revealed

Some 10,000 lines from the Koran, the Islamic holy book, have been engraved onto a sapphire measuring 58 by 98mm.

The sapphire is part of a pendant which is on display at The Bride Show in Dubai and which can be worn by a bride or groom on their wedding day.

Emad Mokhtari has engraved the pendant using nanotechnology and it has been registered as the smallest copy of the Koran with the Quran museum in Iran, reports the India Times.

The text is also adorned with white and yellow gold, rubies and diamonds, according to the paper.

Mir Enterprises, the company which produced the pendant, has said they have only produced 20 pendants and, out of respect for the Koran, they do not plan to produce any more.

Engraved gifts for weddings are becoming increasingly common, and Cincinnati newspaper the Enquirer has suggested that items such as cufflinks and engraved glasses make good wedding gifts.
