Engraved gifts 'can help the disabled'

Disabled residents of a town in America are to be given engraved identity bracelets in order to help them stay safe while out and about.

Bracelets engraved with an information code will be distributed to residents in St Clair, according to the Times Herald.

The code on the bracelet will be linked up to a database which will have the lost person's name and the contact details of a carer or relative.

The paper reports that people who are unable to communicate who they are - such as those with severe autism, dementia or Down's Syndrome - will be given the engraved gifts in the hope of keeping them safe.

Local resident Lori Furton has a son, Lucas, with autism.

"With autism, individuals don't know how to stay safe; they don't understand the consequences of being separated from their parents or caregivers," she told the paper.

She says she will gain "peace of mind" from the bracelet.

Bracelets are not the only engraved product available. It is also possible to personalise a whole range of other gifts including pewter tankards and executive games.

Such products can be personalised and given as corporate logo gifts.
