Engraved silver trophy up for grabs in the catering awards
Quality bar staff are being nominated for the Galvin Cup, an international award celebrating the achievements of both students and professional bar attendants.
Former footballer Graeme Le Saux is among the judges for the prize, which will bestow £1,000 and an engraved silver trophy on the winner.
Contestants from as far away as France and Switzerland are getting involved in the event.
Entrants have to produce cocktails for their entry - one dictated by the competition judges and another of their own creation.
Chris Galvin, from the Galvin restaurant set up the awards in order to recognise the efforts of skilled bar staff and reward them in the same way as skilled chefs are.
Running awards like this one can act as an incentive for bar attendants to improve their skills levels, Mr Galvin told the Caterer Search magazine.
Trophies and awards are just one way to recognise staff achievement. Other engraved gifts such as crystal products and luggage tags can be used as prizes within a company.
