Engraved trophies increase appeal of bowling for children

Children in the US are being turned onto bowling by the chance to have their name engraved on championship trophies, according to WickedLocal.com.

In Falmouth in Cape Cod, children aged seven to 15 are being encouraged to learn candlepin bowling by a local Saturday league.

The league was established in the 1970s and attracts a number of local children.

Greg Dunn, a new player who started this season, told WickedLocal.com that a good game "feels great".

Fellow bowler Sam Fuller described his sense of achievement when watching the ball hit the pins, saying although he plays baseball, bowling "is really [his] favourite sport".

Engraved trophies are awarded to all players each season in a number of areas including first and second place teams and highest scores.

The season will conclude with the trophy presentation ceremony in May.

Bowling is a very old sport, equipment for the game has been found dating back to the ancient Egyptians in 5200 BC.
