Engraved trophy for Sir Bobby Robson

Hero former manager of the Ipswich football team Sir Bobby Robson was presented with an engraved replica trophy of the FA Cup he won with his team in 1978.

The silver cup was produced with special permission from the FA as part of the celebration of the 30-year anniversary of the club's win, the Evening Star reported.

"I'm overwhelmed. What a wonderful gift and what a wonderful thought," he told the crowd.

"It's a unique gift that no other manager will ever get," he said.

Sir Robson added that he would treasure the cup "until the day I die".

He also said that he loved being the team's manager, describing team members as both his colleagues and his friends.

A stand at the football club was re-named in his honour.

Sir Robson has also been granted the freedom of the town and he and the rest of the 1978 team rode around Ipswich on an open-topped bus.
