Even royalty receive corporate gifts

Buckingham Palace has revealed that on the occasion of her golden jubilee in 2002, the Queen received over 600 gifts, many of them official and corporate gifts.

It has not revealed what corporate gifts the Queen was given.

The Queen was also honoured in a number of different ways that year.

More than 20,000 balloons and 52 doves were released in the Queen's honour during jubilee visits.

And during the jubilee period, which lasted from February to August, she gave more than 20 speeches.

It was not just Britain which celebrated the anniversary of the queen's accession to the throne.

The Empire State Building in New York was lit up in purple and gold on June 4th to celebrate the close friendship between the UK and New York.

Some 48,000 people were invited by the Queen to attend six garden parties to celebrate the golden jubilee.

Three of the parties were specially themed: Young People born since the Silver Jubilee, Accession Day Babies, and representatives from the charities which enjoy the patronage of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.

Engraved gifts that could have been presented to the queen include pewter tankards and engraved silver clocks.
