Google puts"rigorous"effort into logo change
Internet search engine Google has revealed that its change in logo design went through more than 300 trial versions, illustrating the importance the firm attaches to its logo.
Although the branding has not changed on the site's home page, the favicon - the box next to the page's entry in the 'favourites' list - has been altered and is now a smaller lower-case g rather than the previous uppercase G.
Google developers Marissa Mayer and Michael Lopez said they wanted something which would not date but would yet seem fresh.
"We wanted something distinctive and noticeable, so we aimed toward transparency or semi-transparency, so the image would have a more distinctive noticeable shape than just a block," they wrote on the Google blogspot.
Businesses often see logos, which can be transferred onto corporate gifts, as important to the developments and success of their firms.
For example, the cost of Southampton University's logo redesign was reported by the Hampshire Daily Echo to have escalated in price to £360,000.
