Happy employees 'more effective workforce'
Keeping employees happy can help boost productivity and increase employee "engagement", according to a report by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
A more committed workforce can increase profits and results as well as enhancing the company's reputation as a good employer, the report found.
PwC even claims that investors are judging firms' market value partly based on staff retention and the general happiness of the workforce.
Criteria that investors are examining include amounts of training, resignation levels, employee attitudes, grievances and absence rates.
Partner at PwC Richard Phelps said it was "an exciting time" because "more and more companies are working hard to be perceived as responsible employers, to build attractive employer brands and fulfil their reputation as a responsible company".
Employee incentive schemes have been proven to increase employee productivity.
Staff incentives can include engraved gifts, corporate logo gifts, tankards and flasks.
