Hollyoaks character 'proposes' with engraved gift
Hollyoaks character Calvin Valentine ends up engaged to his girlfriend Carmel over a mistake with a tiny engraved gift.
In the soap, Calvin has bought a silver whistle with "partners in crime" engraved onto it. But when Carmel sees the box she assumes it contains a ring and Calvin is about to propose!
Before he has a chance to ask - or not to ask - she has accepted his proposal.
In an interview with What's on TV magazine, the actor who plays Calvin, Ricky Whittle, said Calvin is "dumbfounded" when he finds himself accidentally engaged.
"He doesn't know what to do. He doesn't know how to tell her it's not a proposal," he added.
Hollyoaks has been running on Channel 4 since October 1995 and is set in a fictional suburb of Chester. The storylines are based around the homes and businesses of the local community.
