Irvine wins engraved crystal football for Preston win

Preston North End has won English football's Performance of the Week award for their midweek defeat of Stoke City.

It is the second time the team has won the accolade since the turn of the year.

The victory last Tuesday also won the team a specially engraved crystal trophy shaped as a football, presented on Sky TV's Soccer Saturday.

The team's manager Alan Irvine, told Preston North End's website that the players were "keyed up" before the game because they were playing one of the division's top teams.

"Clearly we've got to make sure we take that into the games against all the other teams," he added.

However, the team has frequently been in the relegation zone this season, and their 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday means they are under threat from other teams desperate not to go down to league one.
