Mistakes in corporate gift giving 'can damage customer relationship'
Choosing the wrong types of corporate gifts can "largely affect the customer relationship", according to an executive gifts expert.
Writing on docstoc.com, the expert claimed that corporate gifts are not given for "altruistic" reasons and they can fail as a marketing technique if not thought out properly.
Gifts should be chosen in order to maximise the benefits from the amount of investment that a business puts into them.
Corporate gifts need to match the client who is receiving them - for example if the client is worth millions of dollars in business each year then their gift must reflect this.
The writer says that executive gifts should meet "objectives" and "drive a smooth relationship" with recipients.
Corporate gifts which can be purchased include bar accessories, desk accessories, pewter tankards and high-quality pens.
Writing in Canadian paper the Financial Post, marketing expert George Torak said that good relationships with clients are "the chemistry that makes them attractive to customers" and are the best way a small business can succeed.
