Pewter tankard award for star recruit
A pewter tankard has been awarded to superstar soldier Sapper William Donohoe in recognition of his good performance during physical training.
The pewter tankard was given to the 20-year-old to reward him for his hard work at the passing out parade from the Corps of Royal Engineers, the Airdrie and Coatbridge advertiser has reported.
It is an engraved pewter tankard and says Best at Physical Training in recognition of his excellent performance at the camp, the newspaper revealed.
He was found to excel during his basic training that included general fitness work, survival techniques, rock climbing and marksmanship as well as traditional assault courses and he was given the pewter tankard as a record of his achievement.
Mr Donohoe told the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser: "The Army has given me the motivation to achieve anything I want."
A writer in the Sunday Mercury has recently revealed he flouted regulations by taking his Elvis Presley engraved pewter tankard to a health spa.
