Policeman rewarded with engraved tankard

A hard-working police community support officer (PCSO) has been presented with an engraved tankard for the hard work he has been doing in helping the community in Bristol.

Avon and Somerset police was surprised with the tankard while on the beat in the Redcliffe estate.

Co-ordinator of the local neighbourhood watch group, Irene Mays, described Darren Brown as "the backbone of policing in [the] neighbourhood".

"He is a great example of an officer. He always acts on information given to him and we have seen a real change in how the neighbourhood is policed since he joined the beat," she added.

Mr Brown's work to reduce anti-social behaviour has helped to reduce the number of incidents in his patch.

He described himself as "chuffed to bits" with his engraved tankard.

"It means such a lot that the local residents acknowledge the work I do and it makes my job even more worthwhile," he added.

PCSOs provide support to other police and are a visible police presence within a local community. Their duties range from dealing with minor offences, guarding crime scenes to acting to deter people from committing crimes.
