Record Disney branded merchandise sales expected
Disney is expecting its branded merchandise and corporate gifts to make more money than ever before in the fiscal year 2008.
According to the firm, retail sales of merchandise by Disney itself and by those licensed to use Disney logos and characters is set to exceed more than $30 billion (£15 billion).
This would be a record for such products, whose sales doubled from $13 billion (£6.5 billion) to $27 billion (13.5 billion) in the last five years.
Unlike other types of brand, Disney characters can remain equally popular from one quarter to the next, compared with other industries where goods might lose their appeal, MarketWatch.com has explained.
According to an article on News.com.au, the appeal of corporate gifts, or in this case a Disney character, comes from an emotional perception of the "personality" of a brand.
