Return of engraved graduation award brings tears to man's eyes
A high school ring was returned to its owner 16 years after its loss thanks to its identifying engraving.
Ruth Oakley, a checkout assistant from Colorado found the ring in her garden, cleaned it up and was able to make out the engraving inside.
It was a graduation ring from Thompson Valley High School in 1991 and had the name John Luis Benzor.
Ms Oakley looked up Mr Benzor's details in the phone book and online but could not trace him.
But a week later, a man came into the shop where she worked and handed over his store card which printed his name on the receipt.
After checking it was really him, she handed him the ring.
"He just stared at it and teared up," Ms Oakley told the local paper the Reporter Herald.
"He thanked me. Then out the door he went," she said.
Graduation rings bearing the name of a school and the year of graduation are common in the United States.
