Sony 'set to use PlayStation branding for new phone'

It has been reported that Sony is set to release a new phone carrying the PlayStation branding.

Aspects of the PlayStation portable games console are expected to be incorporated into the phone, Marketing Week reports.

It is hoped that such a move would increase sales and encourage people who enjoy gaming and the PlayStation to purchase the phone.

Such a phone would be ready to be released in time for Christmas 2009, Marketing Week says.

However, the industry magazine quotes, insiders at the company said that Sony's partnership with Ericcsson is hanging on the balance over the issue of branding, with Sony refusing to share the PlayStation branding with its partner firm.

The move shows the importance of branding, which can be printed onto corporate gifts.

According to an article on PR-Inside.com, providing clients, customers and suppliers with corporate gifts can help create a strong brand and generate a feeling of goodwill towards your company.
