Tankards for prizes

A female teen solider has been rewarded with an engraved tankard for being the best sharp shot in her platoon just 20 weeks after enlisting.

Reported in the Isle of Man Today, Carrie-Anne Barnes, a 17-year-old Manx woman, joined the army in September and was lucky enough to receive one of the regiment's pewter tankards.

Over in Australia, tankards are also being given out as prizes, this time at the Tanunda Show homebrewed beer competition.

The Barossa Herald reports that 70 per cent of the entered ales were of a high standard, scoring 30 out of 50.

All first-prize winners were presented with engraved gifts such as tankards, second-prizes came in the form of Coopers homebrew corporate gifts and third-prize recipients were given a cheque.

The show, which took place last Saturday, involved 85 different beers from the Barossa and Adelaide and were scrutinised by four professional judges and four novices, the newspaper adds.ADNFCR-1457-ID-18483631-ADNFCR
